The weekend will enable each participant to develop their relationship to their idea of what a book is and can be - the concept of 'bookness'.
This is an introduction to an experimental approach to making books using a low tech but high conceptual approach. You will create a body of experimental works that have their focus embedded in the idea of book. Consider these as 3D sketches that can be used as a way of extending your own practice which will be created through a series of mini-workshops. You will have the opportunity to have focused conversations and dialogue with a group of like-minded people.
Day one –
There will be a series of mini workshops where we will cover all aspects of the book, both form and content to include:
-book structures using non adhesive binding.
-how to generate words from pictures.
-developing storytelling using sequence and structures from words.
-exploring form as content.
We will end the day with presentation that asks the question what is a book? It will expand the idea of book through the lenses of bookness.
Day two –
Participants will continue to work on the bookworks they created on day one.
They will also be encouraged to bring their own books they are working on.
